Venture Capital Investments
Nurturing companies with venture capital
To date Siemens has invested in more than 150 companies and 40 venture capital funds. Our Siemens Venture Capital team is located in offices in the U.S., Europe and Asia. Siemens invests venture capital in emerging technology companies and helps play a key role in Siemens’ global innovation network.
Siemens Venture Capital (SVC) has two primary goals. First, we seek leading edge technologies and systems that make Siemens and its customers more competitive by expanding and improving the products and services that Siemens offers. Second, we invest in companies that have the most potential to realize sustainable profitability and success – through a trade sale or IPO.
Innovation is our lifeblood at Siemens. Siemens Venture Capital in the U.S. feeds into the global network of innovation by bringing new technologies to Siemens´ businesses as a complementary component to Siemens´ in-house research and development activities (3.9 billion Euros in fiscal 2009). Our typical investment per financing round is between 2 and 5 Million Euros.
Support to entrepreneurs means more than investing capital:
Siemens Venture Capital leverages Siemens´ global strength to initiate development partnerships, integrate third-party products into our sales channels (OEM) and create marketing partnerships.
We offer management capacities, as well as recruitment assistance, and help secure new investors for follow-up financing.
We invest in companies that:
Have a sustainable advantage in an attractive market
Have technology that has been proven in the field
Have customer references
Have the desire to scale their businesses
We are less focused on a specific revenue number; but more interested in market traction, leadership, momentum and potential market opportunity.
We accelerate growth of established companies in the industry, energy and healthcare markets and fund their expansion plans.
Growth Capital from Siemens targets the needs of small to medium-sized companies with investments of 10-30 million Euros. The financing is typically used for capacity extensions, working capital expansion, acquisitions or IPO preparation. We are engaging in companies that grow fast, have reached profitability and operate in markets where Siemens can contribute considerable industry expertise.
The Siemens Growth Capital approach is unique in three respects:
Complete financial packages are available that are optimized toward the needs of the individual funding situation: minority equity, syndications, partial liquidity, mezzanine capital, sales financing
Strategic value is generated by leveraging Siemens strengths: Siemens brand, industry know-how, top level relations, joint R&D and marketing, access to global sales channels
We add a truly international perspective based on available resources and relations world-wide: Siemens’ presence in 190 countries, SVC presence in the United States, Europe & Asia
